Usually a player in the caliber of cornerback Malcolm Butler doesn't go too long without an NFL team signing him. Malcolm Butler is young, athletic, won two Super Bowl championships in the past three years and was named a first-team All-Pro last season by Pro Football Focus. Yet, Malcolm Butler is still not signed by the New England Patriots and the New Orleans Saints.
With Malcolm Butler's current situation as a restricted free agent in dire straits, the question everyone's asking is what's next for Malcolm Butler. As everyone waits and see what may happen next, here are some of the possible scenarios that would happen to Malcolm Butler, as reported by Mass Live.
The first one is that the New England Patriots trade Malcolm Butler to the New Orleans Saints. In order for this to happen, Malcolm Butler would first have to sign his first-round tender with the New England Patriots.
The New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints can then discuss a possible trade. Once Malcolm Butler is traded to the New Orleans Saints, Malcolm Butler can sign his new contract with the New Orleans Saints.
If the New England Patriots and the New Orleans Saints could not reach an agreement, this brings us to the second scenario. The New England Patriots will offer Malcolm Butler to the other NFL teams. The New Orleans Saints have so far been the only team Malcolm Butler has visited, via a report from CBS Boston.
The third scenario is that the New Orleans Saints sign Malcolm butler to an offer sheet and the New England Patriots did not match. This is highly unlikely to happen as the New Orleans Saints would have to send their number 11 pick in this year's NFL draft if they sign Malcolm Butler outright and the New England Patriots declines to match.
The fourth and last scenario is that the New Orleans Saints sign Malcolm Butler to an offer sheet and the New England Patriots decides to match the offer. This seems also not likely to happen as the New England Patriots would be just giving Malcolm butler what he wants, which has not happened.
Never the less, this is the NFL and anything can happen. We all know what the New England Patriots is capable of doing and they might just change their mind and sign Malcolm Butler.
