Pacquiao-Mayweather II: In the Offing?

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is possibly on a collision course again for a 2nd edition of the mega match that they took part almost two years ago.  This possibility is due to the very recent announcement of Mayweather to come out of retirement in order to fight MMA star, Conor McGregor.

Mayweather fighting McGregor instead of the current boxing superstars like Gennay Golokin, Keith Thurman or Manny Pacquiao himself in a rematch  is however being met with severe criticism in the boxing community and by mainstream boxing fans.   McGregor has zero experience fighting in an official boxing match - amateur or professional.  But there is clear indication about a sizeable number of people buying the fight, MMA fans and the Irish countrymen of McGregor in particular.

Should the Mayweather-McGregor tussle pushes through, chances are the forty-year old and Grand Rapids, Michigan native is going to stay active for another couple of fights after the McGregor clash, win or lose. The American who collected five weight division world championships in  in 49 perfect win fights, already riding into the sun set of his career, will not fight anybody other than someone who could help him bring the greatest money. That opponent is certainly very easy to identify; it's no other than the fighting senator from the Philippines.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (49-0-0, 26 Kos) beat Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs) in their first meeting, in a fight that easily took a page in record books as the highest-earning prize fight in history. But the former eight weight division world champion  Pacquiao, who also lost his WBO welterweight crown in that Fight of the Century (as per promotion), expressed displeasure with the official verdict stating that he did enough to earn the victory.  He further claimed he suffered a shoulder injury days before and during the fight, impacting his performance.

Since then Manny Pacquiao, now 38, has been issuing challenges in the direction of the Floyd Mayweather camp for a rematch but the latter would always make it known to the former he was happy in retirement and had no plans at all for a ring return. Then again he seemed to have changed mind and is now very eager to climb the ring one more time albeit against a different opponent. But the possibility of a second Pacquiao confrontation is getting more real. Pacquiao after all is still most lucrative for a Mayweather opponent out there.
