Barcelona's Lionel Messi scored a much needed 90th-minute penalty goal in Spanish League to lead his team to a victory against Leganes by 2-1 at Nou Camp. This was a much needed win for Barcelona after they were outplayed against Paris St. German in Champions League by 4-0 on Tuesday.
Messi gave an early blow to the hosts in the fourth minute, striking it from close range with Luis Suarez helping with the assist. Barca was trying to capitalise on the early lead but the 17th placed Leganes came up with an equaliser in the 71st minute when Darwin Machis found Unai Lopez who slotted the net from the penalty area which went on to pass Marc-Andre ter Stegen as reported by ESPN.
Leganes were about to get their well-deserved point as the time was running out until Neymar stumbled over Martin Mantovani in the penalty area that gave a chance to Messi who scored his 19th goal in the league. Although Leganes were not the favourites to win but this Madrid club which was promoted last year showed some resilience and even threatened the opposition.
The draw would have placed Barca three points behind Real Madrid who is leading the table and has two games less than Barcelona. That would have been a terrible finish for the Liga holders but anyhow with their win by 2-1 Barcelona has moved to the second place just ahead of Seville as reported by Mirror.
Leganes team created a lot of problems for the German goalkeeper who was looking shaky earlier in the season but now looks confident in his game. During the first half, he came up with a brilliant save from El Zhar. Another save from El Zhar was better than the first which came from a deflection of Barcelona's leg.
So with this win, Barcelona have bounced back from their chastening defeat to PSG. Barca has 51 points just one point behind Real Madrid who has played two games less.
