The NFL season is officially underway with just three weeks remaining before the start of the 2017 Free Agency Period on March 9. Here is the latest NFL rumor roundup around the league including updates on Jimmy Garoppolo, Victor Cruz and more.
Browns, Bears among interested teams in Jimmy Garoppolo
The New England Patriots, fresh from winning Super Bowl 51, are not looking to move on from Tom Brady anytime soon. It leaves Garoppolo, who played well during Brady's suspension, a target for NFL teams looking for a young quarterback.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Patriots are not in a hurry to trade Garoppolo but they may eventually get an offer that is very hard to refuse. Schefter listed the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears as the top suitors for the backup QB.
The Browns are always looking for a starting quarterback while the Bears are expected to move on from long-time starter Jay Cutler. Garoppolo was selected 62nd overall in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The Patriots are reportedly looking for a first-round pick in exchange of the 25-year-old QB.
Denver Broncos to sign Victor Cruz?
The New York Giants released Cruz on February 13 and he's immediately been linked with the Broncos. However, Mike Klis of KUSA reported that Denver has not discussed the possibility of signing the 30-year-old wide receiver.
The Broncos could use Cruz since they don't have any reliable backup for starters Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. The only problem for Cruz is his injury history as he missed ten games in 2014 due to a torn patellar tendon and missed the entire 2015 season because of calf problems. He also had an underwhelming 2016 season with just 39 catches in 15 games.
Le'Veon Bell looking for $100 million deal?
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Bell could be looking for a $100 million contract when he hits free agency on March 9. He is arguably the best running back to hit the open market since Adrian Peterson in 2011.
Peterson got a seven-year, $96 million deal from the Minnesota Vikings with an annual salary of $14 million. As for Bell, he needs to hope that the Pittsburgh Steelers are ready to give him the money he wants.
