The Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers are both closely monitoring the progress of free-agent forward Lamar Odom and are both strongly considering signing the wayward forward should he be able to show all his demons are finally behind him, according to ESPN.
Odom has been dogged all summer by widespread rumors of hardcore drug use, including one self-professed dealer claiming Odom was once spending upwards of $800 a day on crack and other drugs. The 34-year-old former Sixth Man of Year Award winner also faces a pending DUI charge that could end in jail time.
More recently, the husband of reality TV star Khloe Kardashian has claimed that he is now drug-free and intent on resurrecting his career. Several media outlets also recently reported Odom actually met with officials from the Lakers front office to discuss potential options.
Odom has a positive history with both the Clippers and Lakers that ESPN reports keeps the door open for a possible return to either franchise. The Clippers currently have 14 players on their roster and are rumored to be considering several options for that 15th roster spot.
Thought the Lakers roster is already set at the league maximum of 15, most agree they have the most flexibility to add Odom given many of their players are signed to one-year deals in hopes of preserving more salary space for the upcoming off season.
