Kevin Smith Is Back With Jay And Silent Bob Remake

The past several years has been a busy one for cult film director Kevin Smith. From directing TV series to planning sequels of his past films, it seems like Kevin Smith doesn't have the time to make movies. But Kevin Smith's recent post on his Instagram account might prove us wrong.

In a lengthy statement on his Instagram account, Kevin Smith announced his next project and that will actually be a reboot of his 2001 hit film and cult classic Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, according to report from Movieweb. Kevin Smith also gave fans an update of what has happened to the planned Mallrats 2 and Clerks 3 project.

In his Instagram post, Kevin Smith said that a sequel to the 1995 film Mallrats and a third Clerks film won't be happening soon. According to Kevin Smith, the third installment of Clerks can't happen because one of the four lead actors backed out of the project.

Kevin Smith instead started working on a Mallrats sequel. That too flamed out as the movie turned into a TV series.

A sequel to Mallrats was announced by Kevin Smith back in 2015 with the original cast set to return. The sequel was titled MallBrats and filming was scheduled to start also in 2015.

The real life mall where Kevin Smith planned to shoot the film, however, was demolished. So Kevin Smith re-negotiated with Universal Studios, which owns the rights to Mallrats, to make MallBrats into a 10-episode TV series, via a report from Consequence of Sound.

Kevin Smith added in his Instagram post that he pitched the MallBrats series to six different networks. Unfortunately, there are still no takers so far, Kevin Smith said.

Jay and Silent Bob are played by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith. The duo made their debut in Kevin Smith's clerks back in 1994. Since then, Jay and Silent Bob have appeared in many of Kevin Smith's films.
