LeBron James has become the highest profile player to speak out against the immigration policy implemented by US President Donald Trump, a policy which is being fought in the court currently.
The Cavaliers star spoke about this after he recieved the NAACP's Jackie Robinson Award earlier this month, he said he is not in favour of this policy and any such policy that divides people. Further, James said he stands with many Americans who believe that this policy doesn't represent the United States.
LeBron James has promised that he will continue speaking about it. The NBA start has spoken about the social issues before too, it was in last year when he appeared at ESPYs and called for an end to gun violence and racial profiling, while back ine 2014 he appeared in a "I can't breathe" T-shirt to pay tribute to Eric Garner, the person who died after an encounter with the New York police.
In a recent interview with the Hollywood reporter, LeBron James emphasized that he believes in peaceful protest. He further explains that diversity is what makes this country so great. He urged the protestors of this policy to continue to speak up and fight for ideas that bring people together regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religioud beliefs or any other differences.
Various prominent figures in the NBA such as Golden State Warriors coach have spoken about the policy and why this should be stopped. But, the only athlete from the sports' major professional leagues so far who can rival LeBron James' fame is New England Patriots' quarter-back Tom Brady.
In contrast to LeBron James, Brady has spoken of his friendship with President Donald Trump but still has refused to get drawn about the discussions of policies. Atleast two of his Patriots' teammates have revealed they won't go to the White House to celebrate the team's recent historic Super Bowl victory.
