Perhaps, Russell Westbrook believes he can become the next Michael Jordan.
Or he realizes that an injury can end his career at any minute so he better find a backup profession.
TMZ.com reported Monday that Westbrook, the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard who just returned from an injury he suffered early in the 2013 NBA playoffs, has signed a contract to model a "high-end underwear" line that advertises "wiggle room."
Westbrook suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee in April during Game 2 of Oklahoma City's first-round series with the Houston Rockets. Teammate Kevin Durant led the Thunder past the first round, Westbrook was forced to have a second surgery on the knee due to complications from the surgery.
Sources told TMZ.com that Westbrook's contract is a "6-figure deal" with Kings and Jaxs that will require him to not only model the undies, but will also give him creative and design input.
According to a Kings and Jaxs slogan, its underwear is "built with the little man in mind allowing for ventilation and just the right amount of wiggle room insuring everyday is a happy day in and outside your pants."
Westbrook is the third recognizable underwear pitchman in the NBA. Michael Jordan's name is synonymous with Hanes underwear, and Dwight Howard has modeled underwear from Adidas.
Westbrook had to have two surgeries to repair the meniscus. The first came shortly after he injured the knee in late April. The second was in October and was the result of swelling as well as a seeking of a confirmation that the area had healed properly.
Westbrook has played in four of the six Oklahoma City games this season, averaging 19 points per game.
