AJ Styles WWE Rumors: 3 Reasons 'Phenomenal One' Should Retain World Title At 'No Mercy' [VIDEO]

AJ Styles is gearing up for the first major challenge to his WWE World Championship.

The 'Phenomenal One' will defend his gold against John Cena and Dean Ambrose on Oct. 9 at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif.

Here are three reasons why Styles should stand tall at the "SmackDown Live" exclusive event.

1) He Just Won The Title

The WWE showed its faith in Styles by making him the top dog less than a year into his WWE tenure. There's no doubt that it was the right move and he's earned it, but now that the company has committed to it, they need to stick with it. Giving Styles a short run as champion would be pointless and the WWE should have him go over to stay strong atop the blue brand.

2) The Case Against His Opponents

Cena and Ambrose are two of the top Superstars in wrestling, let alone "SmackDown Live," and are certainly World Championship-caliber. Still, it doesn't mean they should win the gold. The next time Cena earns a World Title, he'll tie Ric Flair for the most reigns all time with 16. That sort of moment should be saved for a more notable event than No Mercy. As for Ambrose, as much as it was nice to see him win the big one, his title run left a lot to be desired, so there's no reason to put the gold back on him.

3) The Face That Runs The Place

Styles may have stolen Cena's moniker, but it could prove to be quite fitting for him. The former TNA Heavyweight Champion has the opportunity to be the face of the brand going forward. Styles has put on several Match of the Year candidates and could put on a great program with anyone in the brand. That is precisely why he should remain the champion and the face of "SmackDown Live."
