Steve Nash holds the unpleasant distinction of being the only MVP awardee in the history of the NBA to have never appeared in a Finals game. Last year, he left the Phoenix Suns where he won his two MVP trophies to join Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard with the goal of helping the LA Lakers reach the Finals again.
However, the Howard experiment didn't live up to expectations and this year, Nash is without Bryant who is still recuperating from surgery leaving the 39-year old guard at a lost. While there are rumors that he may hang up his jersey soon, the Canadian basketball star says he is not yet thinking of retirement.
In an interview with CBS Sports, Nash dismissed speculations about his retirement. He told the website: "I'm not there yet."
An eight-time All Star, Nash is averaging a sub-par 7.6 points on 27.9 percent shooting on the floor and 52 assists in just 24.2 minutes. The Lakers guard missed a game on the second night of a back-to-back, a strategy employed by coach Mike D'Antoni in hopes of keeping him fresh for the latter part of the season.
Nash also told CBSSports.com that he's "on that verge of trying to get over the hump physically. If I can do that, I'll really enjoy it."
Nash is signed until next season, although his chronic health problems have fueled speculations that he would eventually retire. At 39, he is the oldest player in the NBA. Last year, he missed 32 games due to injuries.
