Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Pittsburgh Penguins (11-4-0, 22 points) and New York Rangers (5-7-0, 10 points) faceoff in the first of four meetings this season live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. The game can be live streamed here. Pittsburgh fans can hear all the bone-crunching action by tuning into 105.9 WXDX-FM while New York fans can do the same on 98.7 WEPN-FM.
Pittsburgh enters play on top of the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference while the Rangers are in fifth place in the division and 11th in the conference, 12 points behind the Pens.
The Penguins have won four games in a row and are coming off of back-to-back victories over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday and Saturday. Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff made 19 saves to secure a shutout in Pittsburgh's 3-0 win Saturday to notch his first NHL victory.
"The guys played unreal tonight," Zatkoff told NHL.com after the game. "They didn't give up too much, and they started shooting more in the third but nothing too high-quality."
The Rangers had a three-game win streak snapped Monday in a loss at home to the Anaheim Ducks that saw the Ducks take full advantage of early mistakes by the Blueshirts en route to a 2-1 victory.
"It's definitely a lesson for all of us that you have to be so careful with the puck, especially when you play top teams and their top lines," goalie Henrik Lundqvist told NHL.com. "They're so fast at turning mistakes into scoring chances. That's why they're a top team."
Lundqvist, who is 4-6-0 with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage will look to stop the NHL's leading scorer in Sidney Crosby, who has 23 points off of eight goals and 15 assists. Along with Crosby, Chris Kunitz has 15 points on eight tallies and seven helpers while Evgeni Malkin has three goals and a team-high 10 assists for 13 points for the offensively dangerous Penguins.
The Rangers defense has allowed just 15 goals in the last nine games and will look to continue that success while the offense looks to get going. The Rangers offense has been paced by Brad Richards (five goals, five assists) and Derek Stepan (three goals, seven assists), who each have 10 points.
The offense will have to try and solve Marc-Andre Fleury, who is an impressive 10-2-0 with a 1.83 GAA and a .929 save percentage.
Two Metropolitan Division rivals re-spark their rivalry at the World's Most Famous Arena tonight when the puck drops on the Penguins and Rangers in New York City.
