WWE Rumors: Potential Candidates To Take Final Spot In Money in the Bank Ladder Match [POLL, VIDEO]

The Money in the Bank Ladder Match is perennially one of the most exciting bouts of the year.

A built-in stipulation of the winner being guaranteed a WWE World Heavyweight Championship shot for anytime within the next year brings a much-needed sense of urgency to the Ladder Match and an intriguing storyline that plays out throughout the rest of the year.

So far, Sami Zayn, Dean Ambrose, Chris Jericho, Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Alberto Del Rio have advanced to the Ladder Match after winning qualifying matches on "RAW" and "SmackDown." There is still one slot open, which will likely be filled this coming week on "Monday Night RAW."

Here are three possible candidates to take the last spot.

1) John Cena

It seems pretty fitting that the "Cenation" leader is returning to the WWE on the Memorial Day edition of "RAW," and there just so happens to be one spot open. Cena is attempting to tie Ric Flair for the most World Heavyweight Championship reigns in history with 16, so it's only a matter of time before the WWE puts the belt back on him. He also represents an intriguing extra storyline layer in this year's match if he advances given the history he's chasing. Cena won the Ladder Match in 2012, but became the first man to ever lose upon cashing in.

2) Randy Orton

Another Superstar who appears to be inching closer to a return is "The Viper." Orton has been sidelined since October with a shoulder injury, but noted during a Twitter Q&A this week that he's very close to a return. It's possible Orton could try to outshine Cena's comeback by making a surprise return and winning the final slot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. The "Apex Predator" won the briefcase in 2013 and cashed it in to crash Daniel Bryan's party at SummerSlam in 2014.

3) AJ Styles

The "Phenomenal One" already lost his qualifying match to Owens this past week on "RAW," but the WWE may pull some strings to get him another crack. The company could book a redemption match between the stars who lost their qualifying matches, placing Styles against Sheamus, The Miz, Apollo Crews, Dolph Ziggler and Zack Ryder for the last slot. The former TNA World Heavyweight Champion could emerge victorious from such a battle to get his first taste of a Money in the Bank Ladder Match since coming over to the company in January.
