After hurting his shoulder in an Oct. 19 45-41 loss to then-No. 24 Auburn, reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel showed no ill effects of the injury last week when he led the team to an impressive 56-24 win last Saturday against Vanderbilt. The quarterback said he had no inklings of not playing last week despite the ailment.

"In my mind I was always going to play," Manziel said via ESPN. "It would take a lot to keep me off the field and away from these guys. They count on me and they expect me to be there. This offense and this team means everything to me. So to miss a game regardless that wasn't really an option for me."

Manziel finished with 305 yards and four touchdowns and was so dominant that he played in less than three quarters.

Manziel is 184-for-252 (73%) for 2,594 yards with 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season.

"He fights through injury all the time. He fights through adversity. He was throwing a little harder than usual actually," said wide receiver Mike Evans, according to ESPN.

Evans caught a pair of scores and has 11 touchdowns to rank third in the FBS this season on 48 receptions for 1,101 yards.

UTEP enters play and ranks 115h out of 123 FBS teams by allowing 38.7 points per game.

Freshman Aaron Jones has had a breakout year, rushing for 557 yards on 99 attempts while adding three touchdowns.

UTEP will be without quarterback Jameill Showers, who separated his right shoulder in the team's loss last week and was 107-for-188 (56.9%) for 1,263 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and four picks this year.

"I would hope he'll come back, but I don't think that's the case right now," coach Sean Kugler said per ESPN.

Manziel will look to continue his dominance while UTEP enters the game without its regular signal caller but hopes its freshman standout in Jones will continue his rushing success when these teams take the field tonight in Texas.
