WWE 'Extreme Rules' 2016 Rumors & Predictions: Shield Reunion Would Provide Great Swerve [POLL, VIDEO]

AJ Styles and Roman Reigns are set to go to battle again at Extreme Rules.

The leader of the Roman Empire will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against the "Phenomenal One" live from the Prudential Center in East Rutherford, N.J. on May 22.

Thus far, Reigns has joined forces with his cousins, The Usos, to go to war against Styles, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. Perhaps he should take a stroll down memory lane.

It's no secret that Reigns isn't quite as over with the WWE Universe as a force-fed singles star. He was, however, widely accepted when he was in The Shield with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.

The trio came to an end in June 2014 when "The Architect" turned heel and betrayed his bretheren, eventually establishing himself as the top villian in the company.

Rollins has been sidelined since November due to a knee injury, but he is currently filming a WWE Studios movie, which appears to mean he's closer to a return.

Ambrose has been doing his own thing separate from Reigns lately, most recently a feud with Chris Jericho. Though The Usos are worthy of a big spot, reuniting the Hounds of Justice would provide a great swerve for Extreme Rules.

Reigns works best when wrestling in a group and he'd instantly become over with the crowd if he once again joined forces with his two former friends. The WWE is desperate to get Reigns over and this is a perfect way to do it.

While Rollins will probably be out to win back the title he never lost, he could always help keep it within The Shield by helping Reigns retain it.

Though the WWE would have a significant hurdle to clear in explaining Reigns and Ambrose forgiving Rollins, they could have them slowly accept him as the weeks go by.

At Extreme Rules, Anderson and Gallows could take out The Usos, leading to a 3-on-1 assault on Reigns in the ring. That's when Rollins and Ambrose could strike to even up the odds.

A spring and summer full of Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose feuding with Styles, Anderson and Gallows is best for business.
