AJ Styles' WWE debut could be just around the corner.
The former TNA Heavyweight Champion recently generated a lot of buzz when word leaked out that he finally signed with the WWE after many years in other companies. Now, even the face of the franchise is getting in on it.
The Royal Rumble Early Betting Odds Are Bonkers
John Cena posted a picture to Instagram of Styles' face, without a caption, and WWE.com even picked up on the story, which seems to be the company's way of hinting that his long-awaited debut is forthcoming. The "Cenation" leader obviously wasn't hacked, since the picture remains intact and the WWE itself wrote about the post.
There have been a lot of expectations that Styles will start out in NXT much like fellow Indy darling Samoa Joe has. There has also been a lot of buzz about a possible appearance for the six-time TNA X-Division Champion at the Royal Rumble this Sunday live from the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.
Booking Decisions WWE Needs For Successful Royal Rumble
Styles could very well be a surprise entrant in the 30-man over-the-top-rope elimination match, and if it occurs, it essentially means he has a WWE World Heavyweight Championship shot in his first-ever appearance with the company. This year, the winner of the Rumble Match will win the richest prize in the game.
Cena could also be just posting the picture as a way to generate buzz, and not to specifically hint at a Rumble Match appearance for Styles. After all, Finn Balor teased his main roster debut in a cryptic post for SummerSlam, but it never happened.
Still, Styles is a huge name and the WWE is known to use the Rumble Match to create amazing moments and unveil big surprises. A feud between Styles and Cena down the road could also be amazing, especially considering how versatile the "Cenation" leader proved he is during his many U.S. Championship open challenges.
There is a lot of buzz in the air with WrestleMania season rapidly approaching, and Styles could be on his way to the WWE.
