El Chapo Guzman 2016: Drug Kingpin Would've Been Best Soccer Owner Of All Time [VIDEO]

As influential as Pablo Escobar was with Atletico Nacional in the late 1980s -- "The Two Escobars" documentary is highly recommended to truly understand Escobar's impact -- his ownership would have paled in comparison to Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

The notorious drug lord was captured -- albeit for the third time -- in northern Sinaloa on Jan. 8. The world now anxiously awaits a fourth wild-goose chase.

Fingers crossed it takes place in England this time ... because "El Chapo" needs to be the owner of a Premier League club immediately. As outlandish as the premise sounds, it was almost a reality.

Mexican authorities learned the drug kingpin was seriously looking into buying Chelsea, marrying his love for soccer and entrepreneurship, per Diario Sport. It's not as if he didn't have the means, especially with a net worth exceeding $1 billion.

He just didn't have the character.

The Premier League introduced the "fit and proper persons test" in 2004 as a way of "safeguarding clubs against falling into the ownership of unscrupulous owners," per the Telegraph.

It's a crying shame, really. The jokes would've written themselves.

Note: If you live under a rock, Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is a beloved member of the Mexican national team.

Even with all his baggage, it's not like "El Chapo" would've been the worst Premier League owner.

Ask Newcastle United -- who are in danger of finally being relegated -- how that whole "Mike Ashley ownership" thing is working out.
