Eugenie Bouchard Concussion Update: Canadian's Comeback Continues With Dominant Play [VIDEO]

Eugenie Bouchard's tennis renaissance continues.

A day after declaring she had "zero expectations" for next week's Australian Open, the Canadian player thrashed American Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-2, 6-1, in 57 minutes at the Hobart International on Monday, according to sports.ndtv.com.

Bouchard now has won six of her last seven matches after enduring a stretch in 2015 when she lost 10-of-11 and was 8-18 following her quarterfinal run at last year's Australian Open.

It was Bouchard's first win over Mattek-Sands, the 64th-ranked player in the world, in three career meetings.

Bouchard is currently ranked No. 47, climbing two spots after winning two matches last week in China at the Shenzen Open.

"It was nice to get a win against her finally," Bouchard said after Monday's match. "She's a great player and I was really aware that when she came to the net she is really solid, so I was just always trying to pass her."

And Bouchard looks as though she's starting to recapture the form that vaulted her to No. 5 in the world in 2014.

"I was feeling pretty solid out there," Bouchard said. "The foundation of my game is to be really aggressive, but I also want to have that balance with consistency and I think I did a good job of that today."

Bouchard has shown no ill-effects from the concussion she suffered at the U.S. Open that forced her to withdraw from her fourth-round match against Roberta Vinci. She slipped and hit her head in a physiotherapy room at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center during a doubles match the night before.

Bouchard was forced to withdraw from her next match at the China Open in October.

"The most important part right now for sure is feeling healthy and I walked off the court feeling healthy, and that's a very good positive sign," she said.

Bouchard has had multiple positive signs in 2016.

"A month or two ago I wasn't even sure I could play the Australian Open, so I'm just so happy to be in Australia," she told reporters, according to tennis.com. "[I'm] looking forward to playing these two tournaments [with] zero expectations. I'm feeling good ... I didn't want to play if I wasn't somewhat prepared, so I worked really hard in the offseason to try and catch up a bit."
