San Francisco 49ers News: Colin Kaepernick Offering No Help To Blaine Gabbert [VIDEO]

Apparently, Colin Kaepernick is not interested in helping Blaine Gabbert retain the 49ers starting quarterback position at his expense.

Gabbert denied any input from Kaepernick on the field the last few weeks, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

Joe Montana Backing Blaine Gabbert Is Death Knell For Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco

Gabbert replaced Kaepernick for the 49ers' ninth game of the season against the Falcons, delivering a 17-16 upset victory. Gabbert has gone 2-5 in his seven starts in San Francisco. Kaepernick was 2-6 in his eight starts.

Gabbert has an 86.1 quarterback rating to Kaepernick's 78.6. Kaepernick was declared out for the season with a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder in late November, eliminating any chance for a quarterback controversy this season.

Gabbert was asked this week what role Kaepernick, who is on injured reserve, currently is playing on the team.

"The biggest thing is he's just rehabbing right now," Gabbert said, according to the Press-Democrat. "I'm going about my same routine with Dylan (Thompson) and Mac (McLeod Bethel-Thompson) and coach (Steve) Logan and the offensive staff. That's the biggest thing that I'm worried about. I'm worried about being accountable to those guys and the teammates that are out there on Sunday."

And apparently not worried about Kaepernick. And Kaepernick apparently hasn't assumed the Tony Romo role, trying to counsel Gabbert on what he sees from the sidelines.

And as an added knock on Kaepernick, Gabbert responded to a question about seeking outside help as far as quarterback coaching and mechanics, the Press-Democrat added.

Kaepernick worked with former quarterback and NFL Most Valuable Player Kurt Warner and quarterbacks guru Dennis Gile in the offseason to try to help him become a more accomplished pocket passer.

"I trust our coaches here," Gabbert said. "Some people believe that you can get outside help, others don't. I'm more of one to believe in that I trust my routine, my lifting and training regiment, the facilities that I work out at, and I do things specific to what we're doing here. That's about it."
