WWE Battleground 2013 Results: Daniel Bryan And Randy Orton Draw, Still No Champion, CM Punk Beats Ryback

WWE's Battleground pay-per-view from the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y. was supposed to provide an undisputed WWE champion once and for all, but by the conclusion of Sunday night's event, the WWE still had no champion after a controversial finish to the night's main event pitting Daniel Bryan against Randy Orton.

It appeared as though Bryan was set to win the title when he applied the Yes Lock to Orton, but The Big Show's music hit and he pulled out the referee. When Bryan questioned Show about what happened, he was on the receiving end of a knockout punch. After that transpired, Brad Maddox called for another referee to hit the ring, but when he did, Show pulled him out as well and knocked him out. Show and Orton then had words, and Show followed it up with a knockout punch on Orton, and as the show went off the air Show stood over a knocked out Bryan and an incapacitated Orton and no champion was crowned.

In another main feud, CM Punk defeated Ryback following a low blow after Heyman was caught by the referee trying to hit Punk with a kendo stick. Heyman provided an accidental distraction, leading to Punk landing the low blow and getting the pin. In the World Heavyweight Championship match that kicked off the show, Alberto Del Rio defeated Rob Van Dam (w/ Ricardo Rodriguez) in a hardcore match after he applied the cross arm breaker with an assist from a chair wrapped around Van Dam's arm and caused him to tap out.

In another main storyline, Goldust and Cody Rhodes were able to win their jobs back by defeating The Shield with the assistance of their father, Dusty Rhodes. Dusty Rhodes took out Dean Ambrose near the end of the match, and after Seth Rollins attempted a roll up on Cody, he kicked out and nailed his Cross Rhodes finisher for the pin and the win, ensuring that all three members of the Rhodes family can keep their jobs.

In other title bouts, AJ Lee retained her Divas title after rolling up Brie Bella, who was distracted by Tamina attacking her sister Nikki on the outside, and Curtis Axel retained his Intercontinental title after he pinned R-Truth. In other action on the card, Bray Wyatt defeated Kofi Kingston with his Sister Abigail finishing move and after the match the Wyatt family attacked Kingston.

In a tag team match, Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro beat Santino Marella and The Great Khali after Cesaro hit Khali with the giant swing. During the preshow, Dolph Ziggler defeated Damien Sandow with the Zig Zag.

Battleground ended without a WWE Champion, leaving the buildup for WWE's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on Oct. 27 as an interesting mystery. WWE furthered a lot of feuds during this event, with Del Rio defeating Van Dam, the Rhodes family getting their jobs back and CM Punk pulling one over on Ryback and Paul Heyman, but there's still one situation in need of settling as the company doesn't have a champion following Battleground.
