Never let it be said that Donald Trump lets facts get in the way of a good putdown.
His latest target is Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred for denying all-time hits leader reinstatement into baseball.
Pete Rose Using Donald Trump Strategy In Attempt For Reinstatement
Except that the presidential candidate accused Manfred of denying Rose entry into the Baseball Hall of Fame -- which he technically didn't -- in a tweet he posted that was later posted by For the Win.
Manfred's ruling, of course, means only that Rose cannot work for MLB or any major or minor league franchise.
Mark Cuban Says He Would Consider Becoming Donald Trump's Running Mate
"Manfred closed his statement by noting that Rose will still be allowed to participate in pre-approved ceremonial activities within the game, but 'may not be associated with any major or minor league club,'" USA Today Sports reported.
If it's any consolation to Rose, Trump also was in Tom Brady's corner during the Deflategate scandal, and the Patriots quarterback ended up having his four-game suspension overturned.
In his ruling on Rose, Manfred said Charlie Hustle was still not telling the truth about the extent of his gambling habits when he met with the tommissioner in September, nor had Rose exhibited any behavior that demonstrated he had changed.
Rose "made assertions concerning his gambling habits that were directly contradicted by documentary evidence secured by my office," Manfred said. "And, significantly, he told me he currently bets recreationally and legally on horses and sports, including baseball.
"It is not at all clear to me that Rose has a grasp of the scope of his violations of Rule 21 ... I am also not convinced he has avoided the type of conduct and associations that originally led to his placement on the permanently ineligible list.
"In short, Mr. Rose has not presented credible evidence of a reconfigured life, either by an honest acceptance of his wrongdoing, so clearly established in the Dowd Report, or by a rigorous, self-aware and sustained program of avoidance by him of all the circumstances that led to his permanent ineligibility in 1989."
If Trump is worried about Rose's employment opportunities because of his denied request for reinstatement, well, he still hasn't named a running mate.
