Dwight Howard, a career 58 percent free throw shooter, may have finally solved the riddle leading to all his struggles, according to ESPN.
The website reports Howard recently challenged teammate James Harden, a career 84 percent free throw shooter,to a contest where both had to shoot 10 free throws with their eyes closed. Howard sank eight shots to come out on top, ESPN reports.
"I might have to start shooting with my eyes closed in games," said Howard. "I have a good percentage. I am 8 for 10 with my eyes closed."
Howard is on record in asserting he hopes to shoot at least 75 percent from the line this season, his first with the Rockets since bolting Kobe Bryant and the Lakers and joining the franchise as a free agent.
"There is a guy who has the world record for most free throws made and he told me to do that drill and it's good for trusting your form," Howard told ESPN. "You can't see nothing, so you have to trust your form and trust that it goes in."
Howard's best season at the line came in his rookie season in Orlando when he shot 67 percent from the line. Over the last two seasons, he's hot less than 50 percent at the line.
