Hakeem Nicks' homecoming game was almost as big of a disappointment as the New York Giants' season has been thus far this young NFL season.
After the Giants were thrashed by the previously winless Carolina Panthers 38-0 on Sunday and Nicks was targeted just one time, the clearly frustrated wideout told the Newark Star-Ledger in a not so subtle jab at quarterback Eli Manning "I can't throw to myself."
Nicks, who played collegiately at North Carolina and grew up near Charlotte, later added "it's part of the game. You've got to control what you can control."
Now off to an 0-3 start and having been outscored 79-23 in their last two games, the Giants seem to be coming apart at the seams. Following Sunday's debacle, fellow wideout Victor Cruz told the Star-Ledger "it was a day in which everything went wrong."
In all, Manning completed just 12 of 23 passes for only 119 yards and was sacked six times. The Giants entered the game having amassed just 73 yards rushing over their first two games and against the Panthers managed just 60.
Things don't get much easier from here, with the team facing unbeatens Kansas City and Chicago on the road in two of their next three games.
