Veterans Day is a fine time to remember all the military personnel who serve Americans all over the world, and keep the homeland safe. Pro sports and the armed services don’t usually intersect, but these seven extraordinary men risked their dreams and careers for their country.

Popovich, a five-time NBA champion with the Spurs, couldn’t jump right into coaching after graduating from the Air Force Academy. Popovich first served five years in the Air Force in Eastern Europe, where he helped win an AAU title. Popovich coached David Robinson, who appears on this decorated list.
