Boston Red Sox Rumors: David Ortiz Will Keep David Price From Coming To Fenway [VIDEO]

David Ortiz and David Price go together like Congress and approval ratings.

The split began in Game 2 of the 2013 ALDS, where Ortiz hit his second HR off of Price. Ortiz's decision to take the scenic route around the bases irked the then-Rays left hander. Holding onto his frustration, Price retaliated in 2014.

Ortiz was not amused.

"I have a lot of respect for the guy, man, but it's over," Ortiz said of Price, per CBS. "I've got no more respect for him. Last year, we kicked his ass in the playoffs, he went off, talking [expletive] about everybody, Tom Verducci and everybody, players ... He apologized in public, he apologized to myself and everything, and everything was cool.

"So first at-bat of the season against him, he drills me. That means it's a war. It's on. Next time he hits me, he better bring the gloves on. I have no respect for him no more."

Now, there's talk of Price bringing it directly to Ortiz's locker room.

A highly sought-after free agent, Price would solve Boston's need for a sure-fired, No. 1 ace. Ian Brown of MLB.com doesn't believe previous history will keep Price from joining the Red Sox.

"I don't think past disagreements between Price and Ortiz would prevent the lefty from coming to Boston," he wrote, per MLB.com. "That's a situation that could be patched up with one conversation."

Except it shouldn't.

In keeping Price from joining the Red Sox, Ortiz would save Fenway Group from investing in an October failure.

Given what else is on the market, that wouldn't be the worst-case scenario.
