This week's edition of WWE SmackDown set to air this Friday was taped on Tuesday night and The Shield was featured prominently on the card. The show opened with Vickie Guerrero trying to get Daniel Bryan to come clean on having a deal with referee Scott Armstrong at Night of Champions, but Bryan said he knocked out Orton with his knees at the pay-per-view and Armstrong could have counted to 20 and he still would have won. Vickie decided to set up a gauntlet match featuring The Shield vs. everyone that helped Bryan thwart off an attack on the last edition of Monday Night RAW.

At the end of the show, after The Shield powered through everyone else that helped Bryan, it was Bryan and Jimmy and Jey Uso taking on all three members of The Shield in a six-man tag. After the Usos and Rollins and Reigns were out on the floor, Bryan defeated Ambrose with a Yes Lock. Post-match, Randy Orton ran down to the ring and attacked Bryan, but Bryan was able to get the upper hand and send Orton to the back.

The Shield were very busy throughout the show as Vickie sent every person that helped Bryan on RAW out to face them in separate 3-on-1 matches throughout the show. The Shield took out Darren Young and then Titus O'Neil in two separate 3-on-1 matches as the gauntlet got started. Dolph Ziggler was next to face the Shield and he also was defeated after he was counted out following a spear from Roman Reigns.

Kofi Kingston was next up to face The Shield, but he was defeated after Dean Ambrose pinned him. Rob Van Dam then came down to the ring to tussle with The Shield, but eventually Triple H came out and yelled at Vickie for including Van Dam in the gauntlet before ordering that the match be stopped. Triple H then yelled at Vickie backstage as Vickie said she thought she was doing what was best for business. Then, Triple H booked the main event six-man tag match between The Shield and Bryan and The Usos.

In another segment involving major storylines, Randy Orton came out and said that Bryan and Armstrong conspired against him to steal his title at Night of Champions last Sunday. Orton said that his old viper side was revealed Monday on his attack on the Miz and that if anyone crosses him they'll get the same treatment. Orton then said that he'll become WWE Champion once again after he beats Bryan at WWE Battleground Oct. 6.

To further the Paul Heyman, Ryback and Curtis Axel storyline, the three men came out to the ring together. Heyman said that he's now the best in the world and he was the hero from Night of Champions, not CM Punk while adding that his hero is Ryback. Ryback then said Paul is a good guy and didn't deserve to be picked on by CM Punk and that he hates bullies. Ryback then squashed a local guy named Nick.

In other action, WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee defeated Naomi by submission while Cameron and Natalya were on commentary and Santino Marella defeated Jack Swagger with a roll up. Triple H also set up Zack Ryder and Justin Gabriel as he said they are talented and that they just wanted competition so he sent them to the ring and sent out competition in the form of Erick Rowan and Luke Harper who got an easy victory over them. Bray Wyatt was in their corner and attacked Ryder following the match and said he's going to continue taking out people for Abigail.

In an announcement on the show, Triple H apologized to Rob Van Dam for Vickie putting him in the gauntlet match and told him he will get a rematch with Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship. Del Rio attacked Van Dam at the end of the segment. Del Rio was also in action, as he defeated R-Truth by submission before the main event.

With this SmackDown airing just 16 days before WWE Battleground, the card has started to take shape, with Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship already being tapped and several matches being hinted at during this show.
