Chicago Bears News: Matt Forte On Trading Block, But Interest Limited [VIDEO]

It would seem that the Bears' fire sale might be put on hold after getting their first win on Sunday -- except that Matt Forte may be on the trading block.

It would also seem that Forte would be a hot commodity, but that might not be the case.

Tim Tebow More Successful Under John Fox Than Jimmy Clausen

The star Chicago running back could find his way out of town for the right price, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport is reporting.

"The mantra from Chicago has been that it would listen to almost anything, and that would include 29-year-old making $7.1 million," Rapoport wrote. "As one rival general manager described it, 'They basically say, 'Don't be afraid to ask.'"

Brian Urlacher Suggests He'd Like To Hit Jay Cutler

Rapoport added that Forte's status came up after the Bears got rid of defensive end Jared Allen in a trade to the Panthers and linebacker Jon Bostic in a trade to the Patriots, but he stressed that the Bears have not given up on the 2015 season simply because it traded away those players or are willing to listen to offers for Forte.

"What the Chicago Bears did this week was not the beginning of a fire sale," Rapoport reported. "Two trades in the span of a week for two players not considered essential to the defense wasn't a sign that Chicago will wave the white flag, ship off all its parts, and try to find its franchise quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick.

"It was, however, proof that general manager Ryan Pace will consider all options when it comes to improving his team for the long term."

The Bears have Ka'Deem Carey and Jacquizz Rogers on the depth chart behind Forte. But if Chicago could work a deal for high draft pick, the team could begin to think about a successor for quarterback Jay Cutler.

However, the previously mentioned age and salary of the Bears' primary offensive weapon could scare off potential suitors.

"As another general manager explained, given Forte's age and salary -- even with his productivity and 276 yards rushing already -- a trade netting any value would be hard to find."
