Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Matt Cassel Ready To Take Brandon Weeden’s Job If He Fails In New Orleans [VIDEO]

The Cowboys travel to New Orleans Sunday night, subjecting a national TV audience to the exploits of Brandon Weeden under center.

The former Browns QB led his offense to just 52 yards in the second half of last Sunday’s 39-28 loss. His 22-of-26 performance overshadowed his inability to take advantage of opportunities on the outside in the passing game.

Weeden had a built-in excuse for that analysis on Wednesday.

“Obviously you guys [media] are beating a dead horse talking about throwing the ball underneath,” Weeden said, per USA Today. “That was our plan all along.

"You look back, were there a couple times maybe I could have thrown the ball to outside receivers given the plays that were called? There were maybe one or two that I could have thrown out there.”

There were, and he didn’t.

Unfortunately for Weeden, his hesitancy will soon cost him.

Not working in Weeden’s favor is newly acquired QB Matt Cassel’s quick grasp of the offense.

“He’s working hard at it,” Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. “He’s a smart guy. He’s an experienced guy. It comes to him quickly.”

The job will come to him even quicker if Weeden fails this Sunday.
