Jon “Bones” Jones is not going to jail for his hit-and-run incident which injured a pregnant woman and got him suspended from the UFC, and stripped of his heavyweight title. Jones told the court this week the crash was a “wake up call,” and it seems like he meant it.
Jones posted a workout video and he looks absolutely huge.
Ranking Jon Jones' Possible Light Heavyweight Opponents
So big, in fact, that it’s fair to wonder if he might campaign at heavyweight when he returns to the octagon. UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum would be interested.
Fighting Werdum at heavyweight in his first fight off suspension is a pipe dream, but a return within the heavyweight division is not out of the question. Jones has little to prove at light heavyweight. He has soundly defeated Cormier, and has a victory over Alexander Gustafsson, Cormier’s challenger this Saturday. While Gustafsson did give Jones the hardest fight of his career, the decision win was not particularly controversial.
Chris Weidman Badly Wants Jon Jones Super Fight
He also could potentially meet undefeated middleweight champion Chris Weidman in a super fight, although meeting him at a catch weight below light heavyweight might be difficult judging from his bulked-up physique.
Jones, a 6’4 specimen, has the frame to support a heavyweight build, and he’d bring an uncommon level of striking and defensive skill to the division. Werdum is interested, and ex-champion Cain Velasquez has lost some of his aura of invincibility. Perhaps Jones starts with a lower-level heavyweight, works his way up, and cements his legacy as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.
