Roman Reigns Update: WWE Star Says 'Football Saved My Life' In 49ers' New Show [VIDEO]

Roman Reigns places bone-crunching hits on other Superstars in the ring, but he excelled at it on the gridiron long before bringing his mean streak to the squared circle.

Reigns appeared in the teaser for the upcoming second season of "The Faithful," a show that airs following "Sunday Night Football" each week on NBC Bay Area and 49ers.com. The documentary-style show delves into the lives and stories of 49ers players and fans, and the WWE Superstar is one of several marquee names that were interviewed for it.

WWE Night Of Champions 2015 Preview & Predictions

The 2015 Royal Rumble Match winner has a rich background in football, playing the sport all through high school and again at college, where he suited up for the Georgia Institute of Technology. He then made a foray into the NFL, serving brief stints with the Vikings and Jaguars before being cut by both clubs prior to the 2007 season.

Reigns then landed at defensive end for the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League (CFL), starting five games for the team before being released in 2008 and honing in on his wrestling career. In the preview for "The Faithful" Reigns describes the importance of football in his life despite his professional career not getting very far.

"Football gave me so much, it really did," Reigns said in the teaser which can be viewed here. "In so many ways I think it saved my life and kept me on the right track."

Reigns is interviewed along with such names as 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and linebacker NaVorro Bowman and Las Vegas rock band The Imagine Dragons. The show, which premiered its second season last Sunday, offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at these superstars.

"The best part about telling a story about somebody is when you find out who the person is and you really find out who they are as a human being," vice president and executive producer Robert G. Alberino Jr. said per 49ers.com. "I mean Jeremy Renner, who we shot in season 1, was certainly one of those guys. The Imagine Dragons are certainly those guys. Roman Reigns, without a doubt. Carlos Alazraqui, have too throw him into the mix. They are real people, and they are people that you would want to connect with, and they want to connect with fans just like them."

Reigns may have never made it to the NFL for in-game play, but he wrestled Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 31 this past March at the 49ers home of Levi's Stadium.
