Pennsylvania race car driver Mike Stofflet went from a race in his car to a race for his life.
According to reports, Stofflet, 27, was racing in a 25-lap competition at Mahoning Valley Speedway in Lehighton, Pa. Saturday when his vehicle flipped over and gasoline began to drip out of it and pool inside the framework of the car. Stofflet attempted to free himself from the vehicle, to no avail.
Workers came to try and free Stofflet from his car as the flames began to spread. His car was on fire and he was stuck inside with no escape. Workers then began an attempt to flip the car in hopes to free him, but the flames spread leaving him in a burning car, fearing for his life.
A video camera captured the whole shocking ordeal, including Stofflet panicking and calling for help just before he was surrounded by flames. The video, which Stofflet uploaded to YouTube himself, can be seen below:
Stofflet was able to persevere, escaping the danger without any serious injury and managed to finish the race in fifth place. Stofflet endured a frightening moment that the driver will never forget, and is thankful to be alive without any serious harm, and is even thinking about adding a head sock in the future.
"Thanks everyone for your concern I'm doing well just my neck is a little stiff," he wrote at the bottom of the video, "and no I was not wearing a head sock. Thinking about getting one never thought I would need it."
Stofflet is in many ways lucky to be unscathed after surviving the fiery ordeal.
