Russell Wilson Twitter News: Seahawks QB Plays Worse The More He Tweets Before Games [VIDEO]

Russell Wilson found himself in a bit of controversy when he tweeted "1-0" before the Seahawks' season opener against the Rams, only to see his team fall to St. Louis.

Excessive tweeting by Wilson during the season in general seems to give him trouble, SI.com's Extra Mustard reported.

The website studied the Seattle quarterback's social media communication during the 2014 season and found that he plays better on Sunday the less he tweets during the week leading up to the game.

"In between games, Wilson tweeted more than 20 times all but once. In weeks he limited his average use to under 3.6 tweets per day, he performed quite well," Extra Mustard reported.

"What was astounding was Wilson's struggles in weeks he was spending a lot of time tweeting. He threw four interceptions in just six games when he tweeted more often. His worst game of the season came in Week 6, when he tweeted 24 times in a six-day period, and managed just 138 total yards."

The chart shows that Wilson's passer rating was 106.8 in the 10 games in which he averaged fewer than 3.6 tweets per day leading up to the game and 74.5 in games in which he had more than 3.6 tweets per day.

The report adds, however, that Wilson tweeted just 14 times in the week leading up to the 2015 opener. He completed 32-of-41 passes for 251 yards in Seattle's 34-31 loss to the Rams.

As for his pregame tweet against the Rams, Wilson brushed off the criticism with another tweet, saying, "Our goal is to go 1-0 every week. We fell a little short today, but looking forward to getting back to work!"
