The final NFL preseason game usually means nothing to a team heading into the regular season. It may have meant everything to Tim Tebow's chances of returning to the league.
Tebow looked like a solid third-string quarterback in the Eagles' 24-18 loss to the New York Jets, which is bad news for his competition, Matt Barkley.

Tebow completed 11-of-17 passes for 189 yards and threw two touchdown passes -- his first two of the preseason -- and one interception. Both his TD passes were right on target, and he also rushed four times for 32 yards.
Barkley, meanwhile, completed just 4-of-9 passes for 45 yards with an interception.

Tebow, who has not played in the NFL since 2012, told reporters after the game that he wasn't allowing himself to worry about the quarterback competition.
"I'm not going to worry about what I can't control," Tebow said, according to ESPN. "It's a blessing being able to come out here and play this game that I love. It was a lot of fun out there tonight. It was a blast."
And almost on cue, the self-proclaimed Christian quoted a Bible verse, Philippians 4:6, to explain his mentality on battling for a roster spot.
"I try not to be anxious at all," Tebow said. "That's what the Bible says. 'Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.' If He said, 'Be anxious for nothing,' I'm going to try to do that."
Coach Chip Kelly said he was reserving judgment on the quarterbacks until after reviewing game video, but told reporters, "I thought it was up and down with both guys."
Tebow's performance did nothing but help his case, Yahoo Sports speculated.
"Overall, he has looked decent this preseason. Throw in some decent training-camp performances, which earned some praise from Kelly, and Tebow looks like he has a good chance to make the team and perhaps even carve out a role as a specialist. Bradford is the starter and Sanchez is the backup. Is Tebow the third? We shall see. But Thursday helped his solid cause."
