AJ Lee WWE Rumors: Former Diva Reveals New Project, Possible Sign She's Finished With Wrestling [VIDEO]

AJ Lee may be through with the WWE, but on National Dog Day she announced her plans to help out with a good cause.

The three-time Divas Champion took to Twitter to reveal to her 1.94 million followers that she has teamed up with Paws Chicago, an animal shelter that brings an end to the killing of homeless cats and dogs. Lee said she will also work with Beautiful Disaster clothing to help shelter animals.

Backstage News On Plans That Led To Sting's WWE Return

Lee has plenty of free time after she retired from professional wrestling earlier this year, shortly after WrestleMania 31. Lee's husband, former WWE Superstar-turned-UFC fighter CM Punk, has a rocky history with Vince McMahon's organization ever since he walked out on it in January 2014.

After Punk's departure, Lee remained with the WWE for over a year despite her husband bashing the politics of the organization publicly.

Possible Feuds For WWE "Tough Enough" Winners Josh & Sara Lee

In his first interview after his departure, Punk disparaged WWE doctor Chris Amann for mistreating him on several occasions and even said he tried to downplay a concussion the "Best in the World" claimed to suffer on his final night with the company.

These comments, which were made on Punk's friend Colt Cabana's podcast, led to Amann filing a libel lawsuit against the former WWE Superstar and Cabana. The upcoming legal matter was finally enough to drive Lee out of the company shortly after teaming with Paige to defeat the Bella Twins at WrestleMania 31 on March 29.

Since her departure, the WWE called up NXT talents Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Charlotte to ring in a Divas Revolution as the company looks to legitimize the division. Lee, meanwhile, has been with her husband Punk as he trains for his first UFC fight and now she is involved with the dog shelter. The new endeavor could be a sign that she doesn't plan to return to the ring for any organization anytime soon.

Lee left her mark on the WWE and owns the longest Divas Championship reign in WWE history at 295 days, but Nikki Bella (276) is likely to surpass her.
