USA Today Sports reported on an interview Pamela and Kevin Ward Sr. took part in for "Good Morning America," where they explained their side of a wrongful death suit against Stewart, whose right rear wheel caught an approaching Ward during a dirt-track race in August, 2014, sending Ward airborne and eventually to his death.

The Wards, according to USA Today Sports, believe the lawsuit is the last chance they have to hold NASCAR accountable for the death of their son.

Both Pamela and Kevin believe that Stewart spotted Ward coming toward him after running into the wall on the previous lap after a brush with the NASCAR driver.

His father said "there's no doubt (Stewart) knew what he was doing," USA Today Sports reported, and reasserted their belief that Stewart revved his engine and swerved up the track after other competitors veered low.

"I wish he wouldn't have gotten out of the car, more than anybody," Pamela Ward said. "But I also acknowledge the fact that if Tony would have stayed low on the track and not gunned his engine and headed for my son, my son would still be here."

The Wards also discounted the argument that the traces of marijuana found in their son's system having an effect on his judgment.

"I do not believe my son was impaired," Pamela said.

The Ward suit seeks damages stemming from their son's potential future earnings and suffering at the time of the accident, USA Today Sports added.

A grand jury exonerated Stewart of wrongdoing in a criminal case last year.
