Bill Simmons often had to be told to temper his comments as one of ESPN’s highest-profile employees, but several months ago he was let loose by the Worldwide Leader. Simmons went on a bit of a social media hiatus, but appears to be back in full force now that he’s set to start working on HBO in October.
With that in his back pocket, “The Sports Guy” is back to spitting hot fire from his keyboard, laying waste to the ESPN’s coverage of “Deflategate,” and his beloved Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, as well as the high-profile rap beef between Drake and Meek Mill.
His venom is aimed mostly at the original report from Chris Mortensen that set off the Deflategate controversy and later proved to be inaccurate. Mortensen’s tweet, which has since been deleted, read “NFL has found that 11 of the Patriots footballs used in Sunday’s AFC title game were under-inflated by 2 lbs each, per league sources” Simmons then fired off a few more obviously fake tweets to hammer home his point.
For the uninitiated, Rembert Browne is a former colleague of Simmons’ who currently writes for Grantland.com, which Simmons started but is no longer affiliated with.
