Dion Waiters, Rapper Meek Mill Sports & Entertainment Summit In Native Philadelphia Combines Athletics And Music
Rap star Meek Mill and rising NBA player Dion Waiters are set to host a sports and entertainment summit in their native Philadelphia later this month.
The “Dream Chasers Sports and Entertainment Summit” will be held at Temple University on Aug. 30 and will feature such cross-industry stars as Master P., Thaddeus Young, Machine Gun Kelly and Lou Williams chatting with youngsters about following dreams and succeeding in their respective businesses.
Both Waiters and Meek Mill grew up in the same north Philadelphia neighborhood and see this venture as a step toward fulfilling lifelong pledges to give something back to their battle-scarred communities.
“It was both of our idea, mainly,” Meek told reporters. “Philadelphia, we’ve never had no things, no summits, where you could get a lot of information about what’s going on, know. You know, a lot of these kids, they’re growing up, trying to get involved in that business, you know, we’re just trying to educate them, to let them know what it takes to be involved in these types of activities.”
A former Syracuse star, Waiters averaged 15 points and three assists playing alongside Kyrie Irving in his rookie season with Cleveland last year while Meek’s latest release, Dreams and Nightmares, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard albums chart.
