Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Trade for DeMarcus Cousins Still in Play? [VIDEO]

All the talk about DeMarcus Cousin's trade rumors have breathed new life into the Los Angeles Lakers.

Is it because the Lakers are still trying to figure out how to get Cousins?

Sacramento Kings power struggle involves DeMarcus Cousins and the Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Daily News is reporting that the Lakers still would trade No. 2 draft choice D'Angelo Russell for Cousins if that were an option, per a source.

Both Fansided.com and CBS Sports believe that the Sacramento Kings, currently employers of Cousins, should try to figure out a way to make it happen.

Simply put, this needs to happen," Fansided.com reported.

"If the Lakers are seriously willing to hand over the best point guard in the draft to the Kings for Cousins, Vivek Ranadive needs to get on the phone and make this happen. It's a trade that could not only alleviate the tension surrounding the Kings but give them the pieces they have been looking for to crawl out of the basement in the West."

The Lakers can't trade Russell for Cousins straight up because the salaries don't match, CBS Sports reported. That would also hamper any deal involving Cousins and Julius Randle, the Lakers' No. 7 overall pick from a year ago.

But the Kings have a potential powder keg with Cousins and Kings coach George Karl, who reportedly have not spoken since the 2014-15 season ended.

"Honestly, if the Kings can get Russell, Julius Randle and a future pick, they should probably pull the trigger," CBS Sports reported. "A happy and fun young core with No. 6 pick Willie Cauley-Stein and those two has a lot of promise and would allow them to build from the ground up vs. trying to sell Cousins on buying back in after this clown show."

The lightning rod could be the potential big-man free agent the Lakers are able to land in July. If they can sign a LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love or Deandre Jordan, that trade becomes more of a possibility - if not in 2015-16, then next summer.
