Luke Pettigout, Former New York Giants, Charged With Throwing Wife From Moving Vehicle

Former New York Giants offensive tackle Luke Pettigout has been charged with throwing his wife from a moving vehicle near a busy New York City intersection in the Meatpacking District.

Police say the 37- year-old former Giants star struck his wife with her purse then tossed her from their car on Friday after accusing her of cheating on him. Police later charged him with misdemeanor assault after initially contemplating lodging felony charges.

After the alleged incident, Jennifer Pettigout, 36, took a taxi to a police station and filed a report, according to news reports. Pettigout formally surrendered to Manhattan police on Tuesday accompanied by his attorney. Reports are Jennifer Pettigout was later taken to a local hospital where she was treated for visible abrasions to her head, arms and breasts.

“He absolutely denies all of the charges,” said Dennis Ring, Pettigout’s defense attorney. “Mr. Pettigout never hurt a soul in his life off the football field. This case is going to be dismissed. He can go home to tonight. His wife is fine.”

Jennifer Pettigout later refused the state’s request that she seek a restraining order against her husband of 13 years.

With the Giants, Pettigout played left guard and right tackle early on before settling in at the tackle position in 2002. He held the position for a couple seasons before injuries cut short his tenure and team released him in 2007.
