Dusty Rhodes Dead: WWE Hall of Famer Passes Away At Age 69 [VIDEO]

WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes passed away on Thursday. He was 69.

According to TMZ, Rhodes, whose real name is Virgil Runnels, passed away Thursday morning, but the details surrounding his death have not yet been made clear.

Rhodes, who was known in the WWE by his "American Dream" nickname and infamously donned polka dots in the squared circle, was inducted into the organization's Hall of Fame in 2007 after a legendary career.

Rhodes had four children, two if which went on to become WWE Superstars, including Goldust and Cody "Stardust" Rhodes, real names Dustin Runnels and Cody Runnels.

Rhodes' career spanned several different promotions and territories and one of his most famous matches with Vince McMahon's company was the first ever Mixed Tag Team Match. The bout saw him team with his manager Sapphire to take on "Macho King" Randy Savage and Sensational Queen Sherri at WrestleMania VI at the SkyDome in Toronto in 1990.

The WWE acknowledged Rhodes' passing in a statement that was sent to Sports World News.

"WWE is deeply saddened that Virgil Runnels, aka "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes - WWE Hall of Famer, three-time NWA Champion and one of the most captivating and charismatic figures in sports entertainment history - passed away today at the age of 69.

Runnels became a hero to fans around the world thanks to his work ethic, his impassioned interviews and his indomitable spirit. Moreover, Runnels was a dedicated father to WWE Superstars Goldust (Dustin Runnels) and Stardust (Cody Runnels), a caring husband and a creative visionary who helped shape the landscape of WWE long after his in-ring career had ended.

WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Runnels' family, friends and colleagues."

Among his many accolades in the squared circle, Rhodes was a 10-time NWA Florida Heavyweight Champion, seven-time NWA Southern Heavyweight Champion and a three-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Throughout his illustrious career, Rhodes worked for the NWA in the territory days, Jim Crockett Promotions, the WWE, World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and other promotions. Rhodes also had a hand in WWE developmental.

Rhodes last appeared on WWE television in February of this year when he got involved in the storyline feud between his two sons.

Triple H posted a comment on the passing of Rhodes on his social media accounts.

"Saddened to hear the passing of Dusty Rhodes. Legend, teacher, mentor, friend...Love you Dream."
