Brian Wilson is returning to California--but this time he'll be playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The former San Francisco Giants closer and the Dodgers agreed to a minor league deal Tuesday, according to reports.
The monetary terms on the deal have not been announced.
Wilson, who hasn't pitched since undergoing Tommy John surgery on his elbow in April of 2012, is expected to start in the minors for Los Angeles on a rehab assignment before joining the Dodgers.
Wilson saved 171 games for the Giants in seven seasons spanning from 2006-2012, and won the World Series with the team in 2010. Wilson was injured when the Giants won the World Series for the second time in three years last October. Wilson's best year with the team came in that championship 2010 season when he saved a career-high and league-leading 48 games and had an ERA of 1.81 in 74.2 innings pitched.
Wilson only pitched for two innings in 2012 before undergoing his second Tommy John surgery of his career. Following the surgery, the Giants declined to offer him a contract and he will now play for their division rivals.
The Dodgers, who spent much of the season in last place, have surged all the way to first place in the National League West division with a 56-48 record, good enough for a 2.5 game lead over the second place Arizona Diamondbacks (54-51). Wilson's former team, however now sits in dead last with a 46-58 record, and are 10 games out of the first place lead.
Wilson, 31, is hoping to make a return to the majors and lead the Dodgers to the MLB Playoffs for the first time since 2009.
