Much of the talk heading towards Major League Baseball's Wednesday trade deadline has been the possibility that the Chicago White Sox will move right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy. Now, it's unclear if the team will make a move at all.
According to reports, general manager Rick Hahn may not be dealing Peavy at the deadline after all. Many teams, including division-leaders St. Louis and Atlanta, have interest in Peavy but it's unclear if the White Sox will part with him. If Peavy stays put, that means that the Houston Astros' Bud Norris and the Kansas City Royals' Ervin Santana could emerge as the most coveted pitchers on the trading block.
Along with Peavy, there have been rumors that White Sox outfielder Alex Rios may also be on the move, but Hahn has not commented on whether or not the team will part ways with Rios and is reportedly leaning toward keeping him.
Rios and Peavy are both under team control until 2014, so if Chicago decides to hang onto them, they could always part with them next year if a deal doesn't intrigue them this season.
Peavy, 32, is 8-4 this season with a 4.28 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched. Rios, who is also 32-years-old, is hitting .272 with 12 homers and 49 RBIs.
It wouldn't be surprising if the Sox move either of the two, as they currently sit in last place in the American League Central division with a 40-63 record, leaving them 18.5 games behind the first place Detroit Tigers.
It remains to be seen what will happen for the White Sox before Wednesday's deadline, but for now Hahn has been mum on any of the team's plans.
