Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Was Letting DeMarco Murray Leave A Mistake?

As you may have heard by now, the Dallas Cowboys surprised many people in free agency by allowing star running back DeMarco Murray to leave town. The news seemed to get worse when he signed with the rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Chip Kelly Dialing Back The Aggression This Season?

In the wake of Murray's departure, Dallas maintained that they would be fine going forward and that their dominant offensive line would allow them to replace Murray's production. According to the Dallas Morning News, at least one former NFL star thinks that the team should be regretting that line of thinking.

Eddie George was a dominant running back for years in the NFL, so he knows a thing or two about what it takes to be successful at the position. George thinks that Murray added a lot to the team last year, and he says that Dallas most likely will be unable to replace everything that Murray gave the team.

Peyton Manning Hoping Tom Brady Would Get Suspended?

"I thought that DeMarco Murray took a lot of pressure off of Tony Romo last year and that was the reason they went that deep in the playoffs last year," said George. "They were a bad call away from being in the NFC Championship Game. When you have a guy that can do it all, have the speed, the explosiveness, really beat you up in between the tackles, that type of mentality. He was on a roll, he was in unison with the offensive line. You don't get rid of that. 1,800 yards ... you don't sneeze at that.

"That's hard to do in the NFL whether you have a great offensive line or not. Now you have a running back by committee. And I get what they're doing. They don't want to pay the money to have a prime-time running back. But you're doing that at the cost of your chemistry and what those guys are going to bring to the table. You don't know who's gonna be your bell-ringer to close out the game.

"Randle is a good running back, but he's a change-of-pace guy. Darren McFadden ... he was a guy touted as one of the highly rated running backs coming out but he's never finished a complete season healthy. I think they should have given DeMarco Murray more money, give him his just due and go after a championship. Yeah, the passing game is gonna be there from September, October and early November. But when it comes down to it, you've got to have balance. You've got to have a dominant running back. You've got to have one running back in synch with it all if you plan on winning a championship."
