Ryan Braun Suspension: Brewers Offering August Vouchers After 'Trying Summer'

In the wake of Ryan Braun's suspension and a season of struggle, the Milwaukee Brewers are rewarding fans who come to their 12 home games in August with $10 vouchers that are good for food, beverages, tickets to other games or merchandise.

Brewers owner Mark Attanasio announced the news on Monday.

"We were finalizing something like this to give back to our loyal fans just as news of Ryan's suspension hit," the team's chief operating officer Rick Schlesinger said, according to ESPN.

The Brewers, who reportedly average 31,000 fans per home game at Miller Park, have a mediocre 43-61 record and sit in last place in the National League Central division. Milwaukee is 20 games out of first place, and lost Ryan Braun last week to a 65-game suspension for violating the MLB's policy on performance-enhancing drugs

If all the vouchers are used, it will cost the team $3.6 million.

"This is an investment in our fans and an investment in our brand, to do what we can do to mitigate a trying summer," said Schlesinger according to ESPN. The Brewers are hoping to gain fan approval with a new "Fan First" initiative.

Despite Braun becoming a controversial figure due to his connection with a Biogenesis clinic in Miami, the Brewers maintain that they will still sell the outfielder's merchandise at home games.

"We just feel it's up to the fans to decide whether they want to buy things associated with Ryan," Schlesinger told ESPN.

The Brewers will start selling their vouchers on Aug. 2 when the team opens a homestand against the Washington Nationals.
