The Washington Wizards and Atlanta Hawks are playing a terrific second round playoff series, and last night's game was the best of the matchup so far. John Wall played just his second game of the series after suffering a broken hand in the opener, and for a while, it looked like his return would give Washington a boost on the road.
Kevin Love To Stay In Cleveland Following Injury?
The Hawks went on a 14-0 run late in the game that looked to seal it, but the Wizards battled back, and they appeared to have the game in hand when Paul Pierce hit a three-pointer with eight seconds left to put Washington up by one. Pierce thought he had won the game too, and he turned to the Atlanta bench to talk a little bit of trash.
Of course, the rest of the game did not really go as planned for Washington. Atlanta got a good shot on the following possession. The shot missed, but Nene failed to box out for the reboud, which allowed Al Horford to sneak in, grab the layup, and put it back at the buzzer, giving the Hawks a one-point victory.
The Wizards desperately needed to pull the game out, and they got huge performances from John Wall, Bradley Beal, and Paul Pierce. Unfortunately, the rest of the team failed to show up, and the team let a winnable game slip away on the road.
Pierce has brought a new swagger to Washington this season, and he has talked a lot of trash and backed it up with his play. He demoralized the Raptors with his play and jawing in round one, and it looked like he would do the same to Atlanta in round two. But after the end of last night's game, Washington is facing a tall order if they want to reach the conference finals.
