MLB Trade Rumors: Latest On Jake Peavy: Red Sox, Three NL West Teams Interested

Tags:

As the July 31 MLB trade deadline rapidly approaches, there are plenty of buyers and sellers in the mix. Following the Rangers' acquisition of Matt Garza from the Chicago Cubs, the baseball world awaits the next batch of moves as winning teams look to improve their chances of winning the World Series and losing teams look to build towards next year.

In the center of recent trade rumors  is Chicago White Sox right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy, whose trade value has increased now that Garza is off the trading block. It's not guaranteed the White Sox will move Peavy. However it would make sense for them to unload as they are stuck in fifth place in the American League Central with a mediocre 39-57 record. The team sits 14 games out of first place.

The 6-foot-1 Peavy has spent some time on the disabled list this season with a rib injury, so teams may proceed with caution when going after him. Peavy, 32, is under contract until 2014 with a player option for 2015. He is owed about $15 million per season, and has at least four teams looking into a possible trade for him.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported on Tuesday that the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks are all potential suitors interested in Peavy.

It is believed the Red Sox are very interested in trading for Peavy due to Clay Buchholz having no timetable to return from his shoulder discomfort.

In 12 starts this season, Peavy sits at 7-4 with a 4.19 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.

There is no clear favorite to land Peavy, nor is there a definite reason to believe he will be moved, but the rumors surrounding where he will land have been growing daily and he'd be a solid addition to a team looking to go deep into the playoffs.
