Dwyane Wade Ex Siovaughn Funches Reaches Agreement With Miami Heat NBA Star To Receive $5 Million
After years of bitter contentiousness, Dwyane Wade has reached a divorce settlement with his ex-wife where the NBA star has agreed to pay her $5 million.
According to ESPN, the agreement also has a non-disparage agreement that prohibits Siohvaughn Funches-Wade from taking to the streets as she did late last week to denounce her husband for allegedly reneging on earlier financial agreements and allowing her to go homeless.
Even in agreement, signs of the acrimony between the one-time high school sweethearts remained apparent. “Ms. Funches has made a mockery of homelessness which is a serious and personal issue for Mr. Wade as his mother was homeless for a period of time when he was a child," Wade's attorney, James B. Pritikin, said in a statement.
Wade initially filed for divorce from Funches-Wade, who is the mother to his two sons, in 2007. He won a separate long court battle in 2011 to get full custody of his children with him in Miami.
Since the divorce and long before this latest agreement was reached, Pritikin stressed Wade has been providing his ex with $25,000 in monthly support and paying for her mortgage, four cars, insurance, taxes and attorney fees.
Still, over the years, Funches-Wade has sued the three-time NBA champ for increased alimony on several different occasions, including earlier this year when she sought to subpoena Heat president of basketball operations Pat Riley during the middle of the team’s back-to-back NBA title winning run.
Funches-Wade also recently sued him for $1 million, charging he reneged on money owed to her from several endorsement deals and other income. The suit was filed this month also alleging the NBA star “engaged in a conspiracy to deprive her of the money,” according to the Chicago Tribune.
Funches-Wade was arrested last year on misdemeanor charges of attempted child abduction, unlawful visitation interference and obstruction of a peace officer after an incident related to visitation. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, all the charges except obstruction of a peace officer were dismissed, and she faces a court date in September.
Funches-Wade was also taken into custody last week after Cook County Circuit Judge Thomas Carr cited her for arriving late in court and also sought to sever ties with her 12th attorney since proceedings with Wade commenced.
Pritikin says a court will now decide if Funches-Wade gets future visitation with her sons.
