A Florida judge has denied the attempt of Jeremy Shockey's ex-wife to nullify the couple's pre-nutial agreement, according to TMZ.com.
After months and months of legal maneuvering the judge agreed with the 10-year NFL veteran, ruling that the pre-nup each of them signed was “fair and reasonable.” Daniela Cortazar was seeking greater payouts than the $21,000 her ex paid her in moving expenses and the $19,000 he mailed her in “temporary support” over the course of divorce proceedings.
As for assets, she will be allowed to keep a “$7,000 Rolex watch, $1,200 Bulgari ring, $800 Cartier bracelet and $800 purse, though she must pay half the value of the items to Shockey in cash. The couple was only married for just eight months.
Earlier this summer, Cortazar had sought to have her ex either fined or jailed over what she called stonewalling tactics he was using in shielding his finances from her.
Despite the pre-nup, Cortazar claimed that based on Florida law she was still entitled to temporary support and lawyer’s fees. Her attorneys further claimed Shockey had refused to turn over financial documents showing his net worth.
Shockey, 32, didn’t play in 2012, yet Cortazar told the court she still estimates his net worth to be in the neighborhood of $15 million. The tight end filed for divorce last October contending their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
In ten NFL seasons, Shockey amassed more than 6,143 yards and 37 touchdowns. His best overall season came in 2005 with the New York Giants when he finished with 65 catches and seven touchdowns.
