The 2015 Major League Baseball season is in full swing and a lot has happened over the first two weeks of the season.
Between surprising teams, crazy winning streaks and breakout stars, spring is in the air and the MLB has already had some tremendous performances and moments.
With 15 games on the slate for Wednesday, here are three things to watch for:
3) Tempers Flaring in Toronto: Following a controversial game, the Toronto Blue Jays host the Baltimore Orioles in the continuation of their series tonight at Rogers Centre. There was an issue during the game between Blue Jays first baseman Jose Bautista and multiple Orioles players on Tuesday. After reliever Jason Garcia threw behind Bautista, the slugger stared him down. He then crushed a two-run homer three pitches later and stared at it in defiance as it sailed over the fence. Bautista also jawed at Baltimore infielder Ryan Flaherty when he was rounding the bases and then got into a heated argument with Orioles outfielder Adam Jones between innings. With the two teams clashing in the middle match of a three-game set on Wednesday, tempers could flare again.
2) An Amazin' 10: The New York Mets are off to an incredible start and it has been fueled by a nine-game winning streak. The Mets send Dillon Gee (0-1, 7.59 ERA) to the mound in search of their 10th consecutive win when they host Eric Stults (0-1, 6.30 ERA) and the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field. New York is 8-0 to begin its home slate for the first time in franchise history and will be looking to improve to 9-0 at Citi Field on Wednesday. The Mets' 11-3 record is tied with the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers for the best in baseball and matches the 1986 World Series championship team for the best franchise mark through its first 14 games of a season.
1) A Showdown in San Francisco: It'll be a great pitching matchup when the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants play the second game of a three-match set at AT&T Park on Wednesday. Reigning NL MVP and Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw (1-1, 4.42 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Dodgers while the Giants counter with World Series hero and MVP Madison Bumgarner, who is 1-1 with a 5.29 ERA. Though both pitchers are off to rocky starts, especially by their standards, this is a clash for the ages. This will mark the first time in MLB history that the reigning league MVP and World Series MVP are opposing starters in the same game. Los Angeles will surely be looking for some vengeance after San Francisco snapped its seven-game winning streak on Tuesday.
There is plenty of intrigue surrounding the MLB slate on Wednesday as the regular season continues.
