Oscar Pistorius Trial Update: Prosecutor Gerrie Nel Receives Bomb Scare at His Home [VIDEO]

It's been a bad week to be associated with the Oscar Pistorius murder trial.

South Africa's Pretoria East Rekord is reporting that the home of Gerrie Nel, the prosecuting attorney in the Pistorius case involving the shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, was checked and cleared after a threat of a bomb scare arose this week.

According to the publication, National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Velekhaya Mgobhozi confirmed that a scare was reported, but did not go into further details.

"I can confirm that there was a bomb scare at his home. Police are currently looking into the matter," he told publication.

Earlier in the week, Judge Thokozile Masipa was grilled during a job interview for her verdict that allowed Pistorius to escape a murder charge and instead receive a culpable homicide charge. He is serving a five-year prison sentence and eligible for house arrest after 10 months.

He could leave Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria in August.

Masipa, a member of the North Gauteng High Court, has applied to become judge president of the soon-to-be launched Limpopo Division of the High Court. Her verdict in the Pistorius case could be a factor in preventing her from landing the position.

Nel successfully filed for an appeal of Pistorius' culpable homicide charge, granted by Masipa. Nel will be able to go before the South Africa Court of Appeals to seek a murder charge against Pistorius at an undetermined date.

On Wednesday morning, the North Gauteng High Court also received threats of a bomb placed inside the court, Rekord reported.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini told Rekord nothing was found.

"Police checked both the high court and Gerrie Nel's home and nothing was found," he said.
