Jay-Z Yasiel Puig Deal? Rapper Hopes To Become Los Angeles Dodgers Rookie and All-Star Candidate Agent

Now, Jay-Z wants to rap with Yasiel Puig.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Jay-Z invited the Los Angeles Dodgers rookie to a New York club that the rapper/music mogul-turned-sports agent owns. There, Jay-Z's firm, Roc Nation Sports, presented Puig with a marketing plan that interested the 22-year-old Cuban outfielder.

Puig is in the second year of a seven-year, $42 million deal with his current agent, Jaime Torres, according to Yahoo! Sports and would have to pay Torres' full commission if he were to leave.

Jay-Z signed New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano in April, and even bragged about taking the all-star away from agent Scott Boras, Cano's former agent, on a song titled, "Crown" from the recently released Magna Carta Holy Grail.

""Scott Boras, you over baby. Robinson Cano, you coming with me," the lyrics said.

Boras refused to take Jay-Z to task for the Cano ordeal, saying only, "My music taste? I love jazz. I'm a huge Bernie Williams fan."

According to Yahoo! Sports, Roc Nation's sports clientele includes Cano, Oklahoma Thunder star Kevin Durant, New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz and WNBA basketball player Skylar Diggins of the Tulsa shock.

Jay-Z reportedly is also interested in Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, another Cuban player.

While Jay-Z and Roc Nation appear to be gaining a strong foothold quickly in the athletic arena, he is receiving criticism for entering a field with little experience.

Yahoo! Sports wrote that agents around baseball are questioning the logic in signing with a fledgling agency run, whose head has no previous experience in negotiating sports contracts.

A column on FoxSports.com was more to the point:

"The marriage of Jay-Z to the sports world is idiotic," it said.

Roc Nation Sports has partnered on the baseball side with Creative Artists Agency, which is involved in sports.
